The Richfield Springs Public Library was a gift from Thomas Proctor, in 1910 with an addition of the beautiful Memorial Room which was built in 1912. Originally the Memorial room had a stained glass roof but had to be covered up and a new roof was built over it due to leaking. The stained glass roof still remains, covered by plywood boards, it is my goal at some point to have the plywood removed, revealing the stained glass panels, and install lights above them to enhance the feature. Within the memorial room is a large four-poster bed which had been modified to become a large cabinet with a large mirror in the center and storage space behind it.
At the library, we hold art classes for children at 3 pm on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, and an artists group at 6 pm on the first and third Tuesdays of the month for Teens and Adults. We have several maker space tools and equipment for use in the library such as a 3D printer, 3 sewing machines, wood burning tools, book binding equipment and supplies as well as plenty of paint, drawing materials and other crafting supplies available for free use. We also provide a free sketchbook to all first-time participants in the art classes/groups.
We also provide space for local artists and artisans to display their work at the library, a new artist/artisan is displayed each month.
The Richfield Springs Historical Association is just down the road from the library, and a beautiful Park where a clock tower now stands at its corner, and had been in the middle of the street when originally placed in the village.
Richfield Springs is the home of several restaurants; two pizza places, The Brickhouse Pizza which has a fun arcade in the dining area, and NY Pizzeria; we are also home of the Tally-Ho, Cassidy's Diner, the Foo Chow Chinese Restaurant, and the Richfield Springs Community Food Cooperative where you can get locally grown and processed herbs, spices, food, and coffee; products made by local artisans as well as art made by local artists and books by local authors.
