Interesting Facts

The Nineveh Library was the first in Broome County to become a Chartered Library.  The application was made in 1899 and the permanent charter was issued in 1901.  Books that had been in rotation from home to home were moved to a rented 20x24 foot building and were then entered by hand into a notebook when loaned.  Come visit us to see pictures of our library past and present!  Cartoonist, Johnny Hart, was a long time resident of Nineveh and designed our library logo.

Local Points of Interest

Th small town of Nineveh has a post office, a country store with pizza by the slice and hand-dipped ice cream year around.  There's a garden supply store with kayak and canoe rentals, a building supply store, a Farm and Garden Store and several restaurants/deli's to choose from.  We also have many summer visitors due to historical significance to the Mormon community.  The Joseph Knight Sr. Ancestral Farmhouse, built in 1815, has been beautifully restored with authentic artifacts and furnishings and can be toured by contacting volunteers at 607-693-1266.  St. Luke's Museum and the historically preserved one-room Doraville Schoolhouse can be viewed by appointment only @ www.onaquagahistoricalsociety.org.  Animal Adventure Park and Nathaniel Cole Park are also close by.
